Robot Teams

Want to be part of something amazing? Join a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team — dynamic groups of high school students who design, build, and program competitive robots together.

Starting a team

Starting and running an FRC team is incredibly rewarding — there are no registration or competition fees. Here's what you need to get going:

  • $6,000+ worth of robot parts
  • A space to work in — a woodworking classroom, a garage
  • Basic tools
  • An enthusiastic adult

FRC can run as part of an engineering curriculum or as an after-school club — students should commit to at least 3 hours a week over a 3-month season to get the most out of it.

Running FRC at your school

FRC can be run in schools in two main ways: as an integrated part of an engineering curriculum, or as an extracurricular club. Run as part of engineering classes, it naturally aligns with project-based learning outcomes in both general and ATAR engineering courses. Run as an after-school club, students should commit to a minimum of around 3 hours a week over a 3-month season to get the most out of the program.

Grant funding is sometimes available to help schools and community groups get a new team off the ground — get in touch and we'll point you toward whatever's currently on offer.

Support throughout the season

In the lead-up to WARP, teams get access to hands-on workshops, practice matches, and mentoring — all designed to get every team, new or experienced, ready for competition day.
